Three men who have been arrested in Scotland are facing extradition to Canada over the death of a restaurateur.
Police Scotland confirmed three men, aged 54, 47 and 24, have been arrested in the Edinburgh and Dalkeith areas in connection with Sharif Rahman in August 2023 in Owen Sound, Ontario.
Mr Rahman, 44, owner of the Curry House restaurant, was assaulted and succumbed to his injuries with three men involved in the incident fleeing the country.
Robert Evans, 24, was arrested and charged with manslaughter, according to detective inspector Jane Conway of the Ontario Provincial Police.
Robert Busby Evans, 47, and Barry Evans, 54, were arrested and charged with “accessory after the fact to commit an indictable offence”.
DI Conway told a press conference on Wednesday: “While it is too early to provide a timeline for extradition, the three accused have been arrested.
“The investigation into Sharif Rahman’s death has been complex and required coordination from many agencies, partners and units.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Three men, aged 54, 47, and 24, have been arrested in the Edinburgh and Dalkeith areas in connection with an outstanding international warrant.”
“Officers from Police Scotland are liaising with the relevant authorities.”
