A teenage cyclist who died after being struck by a car in Falkirk has been named.

Harley Smith was on Polmont Road at its junction with Dundas Road when his bike collided with the silver Mercedes on Friday night.

The 16-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident that took place just before 9pm.

The car driver and two passengers were uninjured.

Police closed the road for several hours before it was reopened at around 4am on Saturday. 

Sergeant David Marr of the Stirling Road Police Unit said: “This was a serious collision and our thoughts at this time are with the family and friends of the boy who sadly lost his life, along with all of those involved.”
