A 19-year-old woman from Edinburgh has been spat at and told to ‘go back to your own country’ during a racist attack in the capital.

The teenager, who works as a nursery teacher, was on Muirhouse Gardens when an older woman confronted her.

During the confrontation she screamed racist abuse at the teen before spitting on her.

The suspect, who was carrying two Farmfoods bags and wearing a green jacket and grey jogging bottoms, then told the victim that she had AIDS.

Police are investigating the attack, that took place on Monday, November 22, as they look to trace the woman involved.

A spokesman for the force confirmed the incident.

He said: “Officers were called around 9.45pm on Monday November 22, to a report of racial abuse in Muirhouse Gardens, Edinburgh.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
