Teen charged over blaze that ripped through old school

A teenager has been charged after a fire destroyed a former school in Fife.

The blaze at the old Viewforth High School on Loughborough Road, Kirkcaldy occurred on Saturday, August 15.

Firefighters worked through the night to contain the fire.

Police said a 16-year-old boy has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

A full report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

It was the third fire at the C-listed building – which opened as a school in 1908 and closed in 2016 – since January.

Another fire damaged the school in 2017, and it was twice engulfed by flames in the 1970s.

Now it’s lying in ruins, with the site set to become housing.
