Street reopens after manhole cover explodes and residents evacuated

Locals were evacuated from their homes as a precaution, and several roads nearby were closed

Residents have been allowed back into their properties after a manhole cover exploded in Dunfermline.

Emergency services were called to Townhill Road on Wednesday morning after the electrical malfunction.

Footage from the scene shows the cover being catapulted several feet into the air.

Locals were evacuated from their homes as a precaution, and several roads nearby were closed.

Bellyeoman Road, at the junction of Townhill Road at Witch Brae, remains closed following the incident, while Albany Street has now reopened.

Residents have been allowed back into their properties.
