An Edinburgh street has been locked down following reports of “suspected grenades” inside a house.

Officers were called to the scene at Caledonian Crescent in the capital at around 12.20pm on June 7.

Explosive Ordinance Teams (EOD) were alerted and police placed a cordon around the area.

A number of homes were also evacuated as a precaution.

They later established that the items did not pose any risk, and were taken away by EOD to be destroyed.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 12.20pm on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, following reports that suspected grenades were found with a property at Caledonian Crescent in Edinburgh.

“Explosive Ordnance Disposal team were contacted, a cordon was put in place and number of properties evacuated as a precaution.

“It was later established that the items posed no risk to the public and EOD took them for destruction.”
