A bus driver has been left injured after being assaulted by a passenger while travelling on a Fife bus route.
Police received a report of an assault on Wednesday evening at around 6.25pm after a passenger travelling on the Stagecoach X59 route from St Andrews to Edinburgh assaulted the bus driver.
The bus was forced to stop near the Forth Road Bridge following the attack on the northbound carriageway.
Stagecoach said the driver sustained a minor injury and is being supported by the company.
A Stagecoach spokesperson said: “We’re deeply disappointed that one of our drivers was assaulted while carrying out their duties last night. Our immediate concern is the welfare of our colleague, who sustained a minor injury and is being supported.
“Violence, abuse and threatening behaviour towards our colleagues are completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated. We are assisting Police Scotland with their enquiries.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6.25pm on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, we received a report of an assault on the northbound carriageway of the Forth Road Bridge.
“Enquiries are at an early stage.”
The attack comes after two teenage girls were charged earlier this week following assaults on board a Stagecoach bus at Dunfermline Bus Station.
The incident, involving a group of youths, took place on the X24 Stagecoach service at around 9.30pm on Tuesday.
