Hundreds of St Andrews University students have taken a cold dip in the sea, the morning after their traditional procession through the town.
The Gaudie is a torchlight procession where the university students walk through the town to the pier wearing academic gowns.
It takes place each year on April 30 to commemorate former student John Honey, who rescued the crew of a small ship called the Janet of Macduff, which had run aground on the East Sands in 1800.
The red-robed students were led by a piper as they made their way to the pier on Thursday evening.
On Friday morning, another traditional event known as the May Dip was held.
At sunrise, students returned to the East Sand and collectively ran into the North Sea.
This is intended to bring good luck and cleanse any academic sins.
