Skunk spotted roaming road late at night near village

The black-and-white animal, typically found in the Americas, was seen on a road in Fife

A skunk has been spotted on the loose on a road near a town in Fife on Monday night.

A video shows the black-and-white animal, typically found in the Americas, walking along the B914 towards Saline just outside Kelty.

Skunks, which are notorious for spraying a foul-smelling liquid from their anal glands, can legally be kept as a pet in the UK.

Domestic skunks tend to be kept indoors; however, they can be free-roaming when supervised.

According to Lawton and Stoakes vets, known for providing care to exotic animals, the pets can be “mischievous and will explore hidden areas”.

The SSPCA (Scottish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) has confirmed it is aware of the lost skunk and is urging anyone who spots the animal to get in touch via the website or by phone on 03000 999 999.
