Plans to demolish a building featured in the hit Netflix series Dept Q have been submitted to Edinburgh City Council.

Argyle House could be torn down and replaced with a multi-use development which would feature a hotel, residential properties, office and retail space.

The building, situated near Edinburgh Castle at West Port, was used for exterior shots of the police station in the popular series starring Matthew Goode.

Argyle House, which was built between 1966 and 1968, has featured in multiple other shows, including acting as the headquarters of the fictional Lothian Police force in the STV series Crime, written by Irvine Welsh.

Despite its popularity among location scouts, the building has previously been cited as one of the capital city’s least attractive architectural features.

Two public consultation events are scheduled to be held at the Edinburgh Futures Institute on December 2 and January 28, 2026.
