Scots schoolboy beats thousands to win competition for young entrepreneurs

Arran McVey impressed judges with his baking business idea, Bonnie Bairn Bakes.

A schoolboy from Edinburgh has beaten more than 6,000 youngsters from across the UK to win a competition for young entrepreneurs.

Arran McVey impressed judges with his baking business idea and the youngster now hopes to use his prize money to pursue his dreams of growing his venture even further.

Arran goes round to his grandparents’ house to do a spot of baking every week.

The family have been in the baking business for decades, so it’s no wonder that it’s given rise to the schoolboy’s own passion for creating sweet treats.

And at just 11 years old, his skills have now been recognised by coming up with his own business idea which celebrates Scottish ingredients.

He told STV News: “My idea was to make baking kits that are already pre-measured with ingredients, and every item that’s in it is Scottish and has a Scottish heritage card.”

Arran beat thousands of other entries as part of the GoHenry competition, which saw him win £1,000 to help expand his business.

He will now use his prize money to further expand Bonnie Bairn Bakes, investing in eco-friendly packaging, YouTube videos, and his own website.
