World-renowned tattoo artists are gathering in Edinburgh this weekend for Scotland’s largest and longest-running tattoo event.
Now in its twelfth year, the Scottish Tattoo Convention draws in around 200 top local and international artists.
In addition to securing new ink, visitors can enjoy live music and art galleries.
“Like everything else, there is an economic downturn so there is some challenges but it just seems to get bigger every year”, event organisers James Aiken told STV News.
“The attendance is bigger, we get more artists applying, and the variety is different as well.

“The level of skill involved goes up every year, so for me, from our first year to now, it’s almost unrecognisable.
“You’ll see so many styles of tattoo – every style is catered for.”
Judi Milne, owner of Yer Ma’s Tattoo Butter, described the convention as the “best weekend of the year”.
“It’s one big community. The tattoo community has always been a really friendly place.

“I’ve been a tattoo artist for 27 years. I’m just retiring and continuing with embroidery, and I get support from the tattoo community.”
The convention continues at Edinburgh O2 Academy on Sunday.
