A school has been forced close until next term due to a coronavirus outbreak.

NHS Fife confirmed that seven people linked to Carnegie Primary School in Dunfermline have tested positive for Covid-19.

To prevent further spread of virus, the school has switched to remote learning for the remaining days before it closes for the October break.

However, the nursery attached to the primary is unaffected and will remain open.

As a precaution, classes P1C and P3B have been told to self-isolate. Classes P1A, P1/2, P2/3, P5/6 and P6B are already in quarantine.

All other pupils do not need to self-isolate.

Meanwhile, several members of staff are now isolating as a precaution.

A spokesperson from NHS Fife said: “A total of seven individuals with links to the school have now been confirmed as positive for the virus.

“Following further investigation and risk assessment, a decision has been taken to close the school building from Tuesday, October 6 due to staffing issues.

“The school will remain closed until the start of the new term on Monday, October 26.

“Remote learning will be in place for the remaining days of this term.

“Anyone who develops any of the established symptoms of the virus, such as a fever; or a loss or change in taste or smell; or a new and continuous cough, should arrange testing using the UK Government’s Citizens’ Portal.”
