Ryanair passenger arrested on warrant after 'smoking on plane'

Police were called to Edinburgh Airport after a passenger was caught smoking on board a flight on Tuesday.

A Ryanair passenger was arrested on an outstanding warrant after he was caught “smoking on a plane”.

Police were called to Edinburgh Airport on Tuesday after receiving reports of a passenger smoking on board a flight travelling from Lanzarote.

The passenger was removed from aircraft after landing at the airport.

A 43-year-old man was subsequently arrested due to an outstanding warrant.

A spokesperson for Ryanair said: “The crew of this flight from Lanzarote to Edinburgh, July 30, called ahead for police assistance after a passenger was found smoking onboard.

“The aircraft was met by local police upon arrival at Edinburgh Airport and this passenger was removed. This is now a matter for local police.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 43-year-old man was arrested in connection with an outstanding warrant at Edinburgh Airport on Thursday, July 31, 2024.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
