Edinburgh Ryanair flight diverted following mid-air 'emergency'

The flight bound for London returned to Edinburgh over half an hour after departing.

A Ryanair flight bound for London was forced to return to Edinburgh after a passenger became ill on board.

Flight data shows the Ryanair RK1274 service departed Edinburgh Airport at around 10.28am bound for London Stanstead on Monday morning.

A passenger fell ill during the flight and an ’emergency’ was declared.

The flight returned to Edinburgh at around 11am after turning back at the Borders and passengers were subject to a delay of around 40 minutes.

A spokesperson for Ryanair: “This flight from Edinburgh to London Stansted returned to Edinburgh shortly after take-off when a passenger onboard became ill.

“The aircraft landed normally at Edinburgh and the passenger was offloaded for further treatment before this flight continued to London Stansted following a brief 40-minute delay.”
