Rush hour train services to Edinburgh have been cancelled due to an ongoing gas leak.

Network Rail declared the incident near Livingston North at around 5am on Monday.

The travel operator confirmed that the line between Bathgate and Edinburgh Waverley have been closed while Scottish Gas engineers work to repair the leak.

ScotRail confirmed replacement buses will be running on the route.

A post on X from Network Rail read: “Due to a gas leak near Livingston North, we’ve had to close the railway between Bathgate and Edinburgh Waverley.

“SGN is working to repair the leak, but we don’t have a timescale for the line to reopen. We’ll share another update at 10 am.”

SGN have been contacted for comment.
