A roundhouse built by volunteers for learning activities has been burnt down in Fife.

Emergency services were alerted around 5.29pm on Monday when the building, which is used by Outdoor Education Fife, was set on fire in Lochore Meadows.

One fire appliance was mobilised and no-one was injured as a result of the blaze.

Outdoor Education Fife, have said they are “disappointed and sad” after the destruction of the roundhouse, but have revealed they will rebuild the activity centre.

No one was injured as a result of the blaze.

Writing on social media, the activity provider wrote: “The Outdoor Education Team at Lochore are disappointed to announce that our roundhouse located on Tod Island was set on fire and destroyed.

“The roundhouse was built by the outdoor education team and local volunteers many years ago and has been integral to our outdoor learning activities that we deliver including bushcraft and teambuilding sessions and used by thousands of young people over the years.

“Unfortunately we have had more and more irresponsible behaviour over the last two years with people accessing the island and vandalising our camp set-up including burning our log store and kitchen and defecating around the camp.

“We are disappointed and sad that this has now happened.

“Once we get through our busy summer period we will find a way to build it back back so that future generations of young people that come through the centre can experience the quality outdoor learning activities that we strive to deliver at Outdoor Education Fife.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 5.29pm on Monday, July 4, to reports of smoke coming from Tor Island, Lochore Meadows Country Park, Fife.

“Operations Control mobilised one fire appliance and firefighters extinguished a fire affecting a wooden structure.

“There were no reported casualties and crews left after ensuring the area was made safe.”
