A number of roads have reopened following a blaze on Edinburgh’s Princes Street; however, fire crews are still unable to enter the building.

Firefighters were called to the scene, next to the old Debenham’s building, at around 3am, with seven engines and three specialist appliances.

The fire appears to have engulfed the block above the former River Island and Levi’s stores at 109 Princes Street.

Pictures posted on social media during the night showed flames and plumes of smoke rising from the building’s facade.

There have been no reported injuries, and emergency services remain on the scene

Firefighters and officers cannot enter the building, as it is deemed unsafe. Work is under way to ensure the area is made safe, and an investigation into the cause is ongoing.
