Road closed and building evacuated after 'suspicious package' found

Police closed down Princes Street between South St Andrews Street and North Bridge in Edinburgh on Saturday afternoon.

Road closures are in place and a building has been evacuated in Edinburgh city centre after a “suspicious package” was delivered to a premises.

Emergency services closed down Princes Street between South St Andrews Street and North Bridge and put diversions in place at around 1pm on Saturday.

This is after reports of a suspicious package being delivered to a commercial premises. Police confirmed that a building has been evacuated as a precaution.

The road reopened at around 5.30pm.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue service are currently examining the package.

Edinburgh Trams confirmed they were only able to run a part route between the airport and West End due to the incident.

A Police Scotland statement read: “Around 1pm on Saturday, 6 September, 2025, we received a report that suspicious package had been delivered to a commercial premises on Princes Street, Edinburgh.

“The building has been evacuated as a precaution.

“Scottish Fire and Rescue Service are also in attendance and the package is being examined.

“A cordon is in place.

“There are road closures in place along Princes Street between South St Andrews Street and North Bridge. Diversions are in place.”
