Residents from 45 flats in Edinburgh have been evacuated due to an ongoing gas leak.

Southern Gas Networks (SGN) have confirmed that flats were evacuated at around 6pm on Saturday, on the junction of Lady Lawson Street and West Port, as their team attends to a gas leak and investigates the situation.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service also confirmed that they were in attendance with three service vehicles on site.

An SGN spokesperson said: “We have got an ongoing gas escape at West Port in Edinburgh.

“There has been a road closure put in place to ensure safety of our engineers and the public as we carry out our investigations.

“Approximately 45 flats have been evacuated.

“We are sorry for the disruption this has caused.”
