Multiple properties have been evacuated and roads have been closed in the Scottish Borders after reports of a “suspicious package”.

Emergency services responded to reports of a suspicious packaged at Kirk Wynd, Selkirk around 3.20pm on Wednesday.

Police confirmed a number of properties have been evacuated and surrounding roads have been closed as a “precaution”.

Members of the public have been urged to avoid the area where possible.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Emergency services are in attendance at Kirk Wynd, Selkirk following a report of a suspicious package found around 3.20pm.

“A number of properties have been evacuated as a precaution. There are also closures in place on surrounding roads.

“The public is asked to avoid the area.”
