'Remain indoors' warning after 50 firefighters tackle large building blaze in Larbert

Fire crews urged residents to remain indoors for over ten hours after more than 50 firefighters tackled a blaze at a building in Falkirk overnight.

The fire, which was said to be on a large scale, broke out around 2pm on Sunday in a derelict building on Carronvale Road in Larbert.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) sent 11 trucks and a high reach appliance to the scene with more than 50 firefighters deployed.

Residents in the surrounding area were urged to remain indoors with windows and doors shut for around ten hours as crews tackled the blaze overnight.

SFRS said there were no casualties and as of Monday morning two appliances remained at the scene to dampen hotspots.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “One fire appliance and a high reach appliance remain at the scene to dampen down any remaining hotspots.

“At its height, 11 fire appliances and a high reach appliance were mobilised to Carronvale Road, Larbert, Falkirk, after the alarm was raised at 2.35pm on Sunday, August 4 to reports of a building fire.

“More than 50 firefighters worked overnight to tackle and contain a well-developed fire affecting a derelict building.

“Local residents were asked to keep windows and doors closed for more than ten hours following the fire as a precaution.

“There are no reported casualties.”
