Rare cheetah arrives at Scots Zoo from France

Edinburgh Zoo welcomed the four-year-old cheetah and hopes she will welcome cubs with male cheetah, Billy.

A rare cheetah has arrived at Edinburgh Zoo from France.

The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) confirmed the arrival of a four-year-old female cheetah, Domino, from Zoo de Cerza.

Keepers at the wildlife conservation charity will soon start to introduce Domino to the zoo’s male cheetah, Billy.

The zoo said the animals will live separately at first and gradually be introduced over the coming weeks, with the hopes they will one day have cubs.

Edinburgh Zoo said Domino is settling into her new surroundings, and visitors will be able to get a glimpse of her from November 10.

Cheetahs are found across Africa and in some parts of Southwestern Asia.

The species is listed as vulnerable in the wild with a decreasing population estimated at 6,500 mature individuals on the International Union for Conservation of Nature red list.
