A sex offender who let himself into his vulnerable victim’s home with a spare key before raping her has been jailed for eight years.

Kabiru Jack Buraimoh, 29, entered the victim’s flat in Edinburgh after obtaining a spare key to the property and subjected her to a sex attack after she had been drinking.

A judge told Buraimoh at the High Court in Edinburgh: “The complainer was extremely vulnerable as a result of her intoxication and consequent inability to consent.”

Buraimoh, known as Jack, had earlier denied raping the woman on May 12, 2024, but was convicted of the sex crime after a trial.

Lord Duthie said the offence was committed within the victim’s home where she was entitled to feel safe and secure.

The judge said: “Following the rape, the complainer was unable to return to her home.”

He said that he was satisfied that the impact of the crime amounted to “severe psychological harm”, with the woman undergoing extensive treatment.

The judge told Buraimoh: “Your continued denial of the offence and consequent lack of insight are matters of concern.”

The woman told the court that on May 11, 2024, she went to the beach when the weather was good, but after returning home, she began drinking in the company of others.

She said at the time she was not a regular drinker and had only drunk alcohol twice in the previous year, but on this occasion became “very drunk”.

Buraimoh, formerly of Edinburgh, was placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.

The judge made non harassment orders banning him from contacting or attempting to contact the victim and her children.
