Rail services in East Lothian were suspended after a man was hit by train.

ScotRail alerted users about the disruption on its social media channels.

The tragedy affected services between Dunblane and Perth and meant the operator was unable to operate trains while emergency crews dealt with the incident.

Emergency services were called to the scene near Prestonpans around 6.24pm.

The condition of the man is not yet known.

Trains between the capital and North Berwick were initially suspended because of the incident.

ScotRail said services between Edinburgh to Dunbar were also affected

A further update said: “We are working closely with emergency services and will update you once we receive more information from our staff on the ground.”

The train operator laid on replacement buses between Glasgow Queen Street and Stirling.
