Rail services cancelled after person struck by train near Larbert railway station

The railway line between Stirling and Camelon has been closed after a person was struck by a train at Larbert.

The incident occurred on Thursday morning, with ScotRail confirming the line had been closed, preventing travel between Glasgow and Edinburgh, and the north via Stirling.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police has since confirmed the person had died.

A spokesperson said: “We were called to Larbert railway station at 10.02am today (27 August) to reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Officers and paramedics attended and sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the Procurator Fiscal.”

A statement on the ScotRail website said: “Because of a person being hit by a train between Stirling and Camelon all lines are closed.

“Train services running through these stations will be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected to last until around 2.30pm today (August 27).”

More than a dozen services, including long-distance trains between Inverness and the Central Belt, have been cancelled.

STV News understands emergency services are on the scene.

Travellers are urged to check their journeys beforehand, with ScotRail announcing replacement bus services will be in place between Glasgow Queen Street and Stirling.

Phil Campbell, ScotRail customer operations director, said: “ScotRail services have been disrupted this morning while the emergency services attend an incident between Camelon and Stirling.

“Anyone who experiences delays of 30 minutes or more is entitled to compensation through our Delay Repay Guarantee.”
