A hospital ward in Fife has been closed to new admissions after a “cluster” of Covid-19 cases.
Ward six at Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline is no longer accepting visitors or patients after the outbreak was confirmed by medics.
Routine visiting on the ward, which is made up of the elderly rehab unit, has been suspended until further notice.
NHS Fife confirmed the decision on Friday afternoon.
Around one in 60 people were throught to have coronavirus across the country in the last week, according to the latest Office for National Statistics (ONS) figures.
An estimated 1.73% of the population, around 91,000 people, in private households may have had the disease, but the true number is uncertain.
An NHS Fife statement said a range of “mitigation” measures had been put in place to curb the spread of the disease.
Essential visiting to support those dealing with mental health issues will continue in the meantime.
It added: “Ward six at Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline has been closed to visitors and new admissions following a cluster of COVID-19 cases.
“The ward is a medicine of the elderly rehab unit and routine visiting is currently suspended with only essential visiting permitted.
“A range of mitigation measures have been put in place to reduce the opportunity for further spread of the virus, including enhanced cleaning measures over and above the already stringent cleaning regime.”
