An investigation has been launched after a laser was shone at planes as they flew towards Edinburgh Airport on Sunday.

Police were initially alerted to a light directed toward flights from the Cramond area at around 6pm.

A further report was made at 9.10pm after the light was shone at Edinburgh Airport’s control tower from the Maybury area.

Inspector Caroline Flynn says the culprits have a “total disregard for safety” and the incident was “incredibly dangerous”.

She said: “An investigation is under way after we received reports of a laser light being shone at planes flying towards Edinburgh Airport around 6pm on Sunday, November 2, 2025. The light appeared to come from the Cramond area.

“Around 9.10pm on the same date, we received a further report of a laser being shone at the control tower at Edinburgh Airport. The light appeared to come from the Maybury area.

“To shine a laser light at an aircraft or control tower is incredibly dangerous and those responsible for these reckless acts have shown a total disregard for safety. I would urge anyone who has any information on these incidents or who witnessed a laser light being shone, to contact police immediately.

“Anyone with information should contact 101 quoting incident number 2487 of November 2, 2025.”
