A riot involving prisoners armed with “homemade weapons” forced a wing to be locked down at Scotland’s young offenders’ jail.
The Scottish Prison Service confirmed a protest took place at HMP & YOI Polmont on Friday.
It is understood that inmates were armed with homemade weapons, and there were minor injuries.
The wing was shut for several hours as prison staff resolved the protest “safely and securely”.
Police Scotland confirmed enquiries are at an early stage following the disturbance.
A Scottish Prison Service spokesperson said: “I can confirm a protest took place at HMP & YOI Polmont on Friday and was resolved safely and securely by SPS staff.
“The health and safety of those in our care, and our staff, was a key priority throughout.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Enquiries are at an early stage following a report of a disturbance at HMP & YOI Polmont, Brightons on Friday, September 26, 2026.”
