Police are hunting a prisoner who escaped custody while being transported to hospital.

Steven Ross, 33, was being escorted from HMP Addiewell to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at around 5.20pm on Wednesday when he fled.

Members of the public are advised not to approach Ross but to contact police immediately.

It is understood staff were threatened by the prisoner but there were no serious injuries.

Police said they believe Ross has links to the Greater Glasgow area.

Ross is white, 5ft 9in and of slim build. He has dark brown hair with a distinctive tramline cut.

He was last seen wearing a dark jumper and shorts, and Nike trainers with a lime green sole. He is also believed to have a blue three-quarter length jacket.

A police statement said: “Anyone who has seen him since 5.20pm on Wednesday March 11 or anyone who knows of his present whereabouts should contact police via 101, or in an emergency on 999.”
