A fire-hit primary school in Edinburgh will remain closed until after the Easter holidays.

Pupils from Liberton Primary School will be taught elsewhere for at least two months after it was significantly damaged in Wednesday’s blaze.

The whole building will have to be emptied as part of the clean-up and the council believes pupils and staff will be out until April.

Structural engineers will continue to assess the damage over the weekend, while the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is still investigating the cause of the fire.

Paul Ewing, head teacher at Liberton Primary, said: “This has obviously been a deeply upsetting time for the school and our pupils.

“I want to thank our staff, families and friends who have rallied round since the fire and all the messages of support from across the whole school community.”
