Police watchdog to investigate murder victim's contact with officers before death

The police watchdog is investigating the force’s actions prior to the death of a woman allegedly murdered by her former partner.

Vikki Soloman, 44, was pronounced dead after being found with serious injuries at her home on Craigievar Square in Edinburgh on July 20.

Lee Greenan appeared in court charged with her murder days before he was found dead at HMP Edinburgh.

The 46-year-old’s death is not being treated as suspicious.

The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner has confirmed that it is investigating police contact made with Ms Soloman prior to her death.

Raymond Brown, head of investigations for the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner, said: “Our thoughts are with all of those who have been affected following the tragic death of 44-year-old Vikki Soloman in Edinburgh on July 20, 2026.

“We are investigating the police contact that was made prior to this date and will report our findings to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service in due course.”

Speaking following Greenan’s death, Ms Soloman’s family said they are “determined to pursue justice”.

They described her death as an “irreplaceable loss”.

A statement said: “Following the heartbreaking loss of Vikki Soloman, her family is deeply moved and overwhelmed by the wave of love and supportive messages which brings great comfort at this devastating time.

“The community’s solidarity provides the family great strength as they feel the profound loss and grief of losing Vikki, taken so young and in such tragic circumstances. The loss of a devoted mother has left an irreplaceable loss.

“Furthermore, news of the passing of Lee Greenan, the man charged with her murder, is another bitter blow to the family. The family remains determined to pursue justice for Vikki.

“Their primary focus now is on her two children and they are committed to ensuring they are safe, supported and surrounded by their mother’s lasting legacy of love.

“The family kindly asks for privacy as they grieve and focus on supporting the boys. Details of funeral arrangements will be shared in due course.”
