Police take no action after Reform councillor's 'born and bred' comment in STV interview

Police will take no action over a “born and bred” comment made by a Reform councillor in an STV News interview.

Falkirk Councillor Claire Mackie-Brown, who joined Nigel Farage’s party in March, was interviewed in September by STV about anti-immigration protests that had been taking place outside the Cladhan Hotel.

During the interview she said: “There is a true unrest – and it’s scary as a local resident, somebody who was born and bred here.”

Immediately after making the comment she looked away from the reporter and said: “I shouldn’t have said that.”

Mackie-Brown took to social media and confirmed that an “anonymous malicious complaint” had been submitted to numerous organisations, including police, over the comments made during the interview.

Police Scotland confirmed that they had received a complaint, and an investigation was opened.

On Tuesday, a Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a complaint, enquiries were carried out and no criminality has been established.”
