A man has been arrested after a police officer and a woman were bitten by a dog in Edinburgh.

Officers were called to reports of a dog biting a woman in the Willowbrae area of the city around 9.10am on Tuesday.

A male officer was also bitten by the dog before it ran off and was later recovered on a cycle path near Easter Road.

The officer was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment and later discharged.

The woman did not require medical treatment.

A 37-year-old man, the owner of the dog, was arrested in connection with multiple offences.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 9.10am on Tuesday, December 3, to a report of a dog biting a woman in the Willowbrae area of Edinburgh.

“Officers attended and the dog also bit a male officer before running off. It was recovered on a cycle path in the Easter Road area.

“The woman did not require medical treatment and the officer was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment and later discharged.

“A 37-year-old man, the owner of the dog, has been arrested in connection with various offences and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
