Police have called for witnesses to come forward after a man was rushed to hospital with injuries from a serious assault in Edinburgh.

Police have called upon the public to provide information after the 26-year-old was assaulted on The Cowgate on Friday, August 26.

The incident occurred around 3.50am near the junction with Blair Street.

The man was rushed to Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment for his injuries.

Police are now asking any witnesses to come forward with information.

Detective Constable Andrew Lambert of Edinburgh CID said: “Our enquiries into this incident are ongoing and I would urge anyone with information to get in touch.

“We are keen to speak to anyone in the area at the time who may have witnessed the incident.

“Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting incident number 2293 of Friday, August 26, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
