Police have launched an appeal for witnesses after a crash on the A92 saw an officer airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.

The incident, which happened around 1.45pm on Thursday near Crossgates in Fife, saw a transporter collide with a stationary police car – forcing it off the road and into a ditch.

Inside the vehicle – a BMW X5 – was a police officer, who had been helping three women with a broken down car.

The officers, in his 40s, was airlifted to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, while one of the women sustained minor injuries.

However, he remains in hospital for observations.</p><p>“I want to take this opportunity to thank the public, and colleagues, for their supportive messages and would encourage anyone who may have witnessed this, or was travelling on the A92 at this time and has dashcam footage, to get in touch.”</p><p>If you have information contact police on <strong>101</strong>.</p><div class=
