A person has been struck on a railway line which has caused several services to be cancelled on Monday afternoon.
Shortly after 1pm, ScotRail said that emergency services were dealing with an “incident” between Musselburgh and North Berwick and the line had closed until further notice.
On X, formerly known as Twitter, London North Eastern Railway (LNER) said: “It is with great sadness that we report that a person has been hit by a train between Dunbar and Edinburgh.
“Services are subject to delays when passing in the surrounding area.”
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call to attend an incident at Drem train station, North Berwick. An ambulance and a special operations response team (SORT) were dispatched to the scene.”
The British Transport Police has been contacted for comment.
Ticket acceptance is in place with Lothian Buses on the 26 service between Edinburgh and Prestonpans while ScotRail-provided replacement transport is running between Prestonpans and North Berwick.
A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to the line near Drem railway station at around 12.50pm today (April 8) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the Procurator Fiscal.”
