A person was found dead on a railway line after being hit by a train in Stirling.

Emergency services were called to the line on Ladysneuk Road, Cambuskenneth, at around 9.30pm on Wednesday.

The Scottish Ambulance Service dispatched an ambulance and two special operations response teams.

A person was pronounced dead at the scene.

As a result, ScotRail services between Glasgow Queen Street and Alloa were disrupted until the end of service on Wednesday night.

British Transport Police has opened an investigation into the death.

Phil Campbell, ScotRail customer operations director, said: “ScotRail services were disrupted last night while the emergency services attend an incident on the line between Alloa and Stirling.

“Anyone who experienced delays of 30 minutes or more is entitled to compensation through our Delay Repay Guarantee.”

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 9.32pm to attend an incident on Ladysneuk Road, Cambuskenneth, Stirling.

“An ambulance and two special operations response teams (SORT) were dispatched to the scene.”

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to the line close to Stirling station at 9.30pm, March 12, following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers are currently working to establish the full circumstances behind the person’s death.”
