A planning application has been submitted for one of the largest-ever housing developments in Scotland on a West Lothian farm.
The plans lodged by Persimmon East Scotland include a new primary school and 2,800 homes, 700 of which would be affordable for social rent, including family homes and wheelchair-adapted bungalows.
Plans detail a mix of mid and high-density buildings, as well as a networks of parks throughout the development.
There would also be provisions for an elderly care centre and shopping amenities.
The site is located on Gavieside Farm in West Calder, and is bounded by Kirkton Business Park to the East, the Fife Sisters Zoo to the South, the River Almond to the North and the Breich Water to the West.
In the planning application, Persimmon said the new development will support up to 800 jobs in the local area.
“The development will also address historic mining legacies that remain in the area.
“Persimmon Homes’ Community Champions Initiative will also continue to deliver direct financial support to third sector groups in the area.”
Persimmon is one of the UK’s largest housebuilders, completing almost 15,000 homes in 2022.
