A pedestrian has died after being hit by a police car in Livingston on Boxing Day.

Emergency services were called to reports of a collision involving a marked police car and a man on Almond Link Road in the town at around 10.15pm.

The 62-year-old pedestrian was taken by ambulance to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, and was pronounced dead a short time later.

He has not been formally identified, however his next of kin have been informed.

The male driver and sole occupant of the police car did not require medical treatment, and the road was re-opened at around 4.30am on Tuesday following enquiries.

Senior investigator Steven Carr from the Police Investigation and Review Commissioner (PIRC) said: “Our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of the man who died.

“Our investigation into the circumstances of this incident is continuing, and I would urge any drivers with dash cam footage, or anyone who witnessed the collision, to please contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting reference 3422 of December 26, or alternatively the PIRC during office hours on 01698 542900.”
