Two suspects are accused of trying to kill a man with various items, including a toastie maker.

Ronald Cleland, 33, and Zara Smith, 25, allegedly attacked the man at a flat in Edinburgh’s Dundee Street last November 25.

Prosecutors claim the man was punched and kicked.

It then goes on to state they did “strike him with a sandwich toaster”.

The man was also allegedly attacked with a knife, what is described as a “folding multi-tool” and a razor blade.

The attempted murder charge states this was all to the man’s severe injury, permanent disfigurement and to the danger of his life.

Cleland and Smith face other accusations from the same date.

The duo are charged with attacking another man at the flat to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement.

Cleland is separately accused of assaulting the man on Dundee Street itself.

Smith alone is said to have had an offensive weapon – a golf club – elsewhere in the capital.

The case called for a hearing at the High Court in Glasgow where lawyers pleaded not guilty on their behalf.

A trial was fixed with it scheduled to begin in May 2025.
