Over £20,000 has been raised for a family who “lost their home” after a property exploded in Edinburgh.
Police Scotland were called to an address on Baberton Mains Avenue after an eruption at around 10.25pm on Friday.
Two people, a 43-year-old woman and 54-year-old man, were rescued from the ruins of the home, while an 84-year-old man was confirmed to have died following the explosion.
He has since been named locally as James Smith, known as Jimmy.
An online fundraiser has since been launched by neighbour Ross Aitchison, in an effort to raise money for the affected family.
The fundraiser read: “Hi my name is Ross. I’m trying to raise funds for a family who have tragical lost their home due to a devastating gas explosion in Edinburgh Baberton.
“With it being so close to Christmas they have lost everything and their home! I would like to please ask for anything small so we can give this family something back so close to Christmas.
“Thank you for anything donated.”
The fundraiser has since raised £23,545, and has a dedicated target of £25,000.

Cammy Day, leader of Edinburgh City Council, previously said his thoughts are “with those affected” by the explosion.
He added: “We’re very grateful to the emergency services who responded so quickly and tirelessly [on Friday], evacuating the scene and making the surrounding area safe.
“I know that council officers assisted into the early hours… and continue to stand ready to support all agencies and the local community.”
