Police were called to a street in Kirkcaldy following reports of a suspicious item in a bin bag.
The alarm was raised on the town’s Nicol Street at around 2.50pm on Friday.
Pictures from the scene show a black bin bag sitting on top of an electrical box.
Police attended the incident and carried out an investigation. An item was identified and disposed of correctly.
The force confirmed there was no risk to the public.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.50pm on Friday, May 1, 2026, police were called to a report of a suspicious item within a bin bag on Nicol Street, Kirkcaldy.
“Officers attended, and following enquiries, the item was identified and disposed of appropriately.
“There was no risk to the public.”
