Investigations have found there are “no structural concerns” after concrete collapsed from a school ceiling in the Scottish Borders.
The Jedburgh Grammar Campus building was completed four years ago after a £32m investment and went on to win several architectural awards.
However, over the weekend concrete infill fell from the ceiling of the fitness suite.
The Scottish Borders Council confirmed that the area was closed off to pupils and staff on Monday and Tuesday to allow structural engineers to investigate.
SuppliedThey said surveys were completed by Wednesday and concluded that there was no further risk of concrete collapse.
The school has now reopened the fitness suite area.
A Scottish Borders Council spokesperson said: “Over the weekend a small amount of concrete infill material fell from the ceiling of the fitness suite whilst it was unoccupied at Jedburgh Grammar Campus.
“The area was closed and classes relocated on Monday and Tuesday to enable engineers to carry out the necessary investigations.
“These have now been completed and reassurance provided that there are no structural concerns. As a result the fitness suite has been reopened.”
Renowned for its non-traditional school layout and modern design, it was shortlisted for the 2022 RIAS Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award.
