A fundraiser for the “devastated” family of a teenager killed in a car crash in Fife has raised nearly £25,000 in just 24 hours.
Kerr Paterson, from Saline, was the driver of the Toyota that collided with a Volkswagen Golf on the B914 near Kelty at around 2.25am on Sunday.
The 17-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
His family described him as a “wonderful, hardworking young man with a bright future ahead of him.”
They added: “He meant the world to us, his parents, his two brothers and sister, and to his many family and friends, and we are struggling to come to terms with this tragic loss.
“Kerr had a deep passion for stock car racing. He truly loved it, and it brought him great happiness. He was proud of what he achieved in the sport, and those memories will stay with us forever.
“We have been overwhelmed by the messages of love, support, and condolences we have received, and we thank everyone for their kindness.”
A fundraiser has since been launched in honour of helping the teen’s family with funeral costs. It has so far raised £24,807.
Donations can be made to the Crowdfunder here.
The fundraiser reads: “Kerr Paterson was a much-loved member of the stock car racing community and someone who touched the lives of so many friends and fans over the years.
“We are raising funds to help give Kerr the farewell he truly deserves. Any contribution, no matter how big or small, will go towards supporting his funeral and ensuring we can honour his memory with the send off befitting someone who meant so much to so many.
“Thank you for helping us celebrate Kerr’s life and giving him the send-off he deserves. Every donation and every share of this page means the world to his family.”
Kerr was involved in stock car racing alongside his brother Gary and sister Zola as part of Team Paterson.
On Monday, they released a statement announcing they would be racing in his honour.
“We are truly heartbroken to be sharing this news. As a team, we have made the incredibly difficult decision to race this weekend at Skegness Raceway for the Saloon UK Championship.
“It hasn’t been an easy decision, but we know that Kerr would have wanted Gary to race and for us all to be with the people that mean so much to us as a team. This weekend is for him.”
T Page Motor Engineering, where Kerr was an apprentice, also paid tribute.
“As most people will have now heard the tragic passing of our young apprentice Kerr, it has left a massive hole in the workshop and our lives”, they said.
“He was a fantastic young man and very passionate about his occupation. To say he will be greatly missed is an understatement.
“We are all proud of what this young man has achieved and become. We would like to thank everyone for expressing their condolences at this hard time. We are thinking of his family and here to support them through this awful time.”
