A mountain rescue team based in the Scottish Borders has experienced its busiest month on record.

During October, volunteers from the Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team spent 398 hours attending 13 incidents in Lanarkshire, Midlothian, the Pentlands, Glentress, Keilderhead and Tulliallan.

Throughout the month the team helped treat injured people, searched for missing individuals and located lost hillwalkers during deployments.

The vital rescue team are now hoping to purchase thermal imaging camera equipment to help with operations in the dark.

A statement from the Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team read: “October 2024 turned out to be busiest month on record for the team, and reflected the wide range of work we do, and the significant geographical spread of our patch.

“Each incident takes team members away from their families, jobs and other responsibilities.”
