A new bridge linking communities across Levenmouth has been lifted into position.
Mountfleurie Bridge, which spans the Levenmouth Rail Link between Kirkland and Mountfleurie, has been described as a key part of the wider Levenmouth Connectivity Project.
Once complete, the 100-metre bridge will offer a fully accessible route for walking, cycling, and wheeling, linking communities, schools, workplaces and services on both sides of the railway.
The £5.8m crossing is expected to open to the public in the spring.
Councillor Alistair Suttie, convener of the Levenmouth Area Committee, welcomed the progress.
Fife Council via Supplied“It is wonderful to see this important route re-joining our communities once again”, he said. “It has taken a lot of hard work by many folk to bring this about.
“This crossing between Methil and Leven will restore a path which has existed for a long time and has been sorely missed during the development phase of the Levenmouth Rail Link.
“Now, in its new form, it will give access to even more of our community.
“This is an important step in its delivery, and I can’t wait to see it being opened and fully accessible to all.”
The installation marks the culmination of months of preparation and engineering work. Over the coming weeks, contractors will complete the decking, safety features, and landscaping ahead of the bridge’s official opening in 2026.
Fife Council has led the planning and design for the project and is delivering the bridge after securing UK Government funding.
Network Rail and its appointed contractor were commissioned to construct and install the structure.
