Emergency services were alerted to a fire at Straiton Retail Park at around 9pm on Monday.

Shops in Midlothian have been left “significantly damaged” after a fire was deliberately started at a shopping centre.

Firefighters were called to Straiton Retail Park, in Loanhead, at about 9pm on Monday.

There are no reported injuries as a result of the blaze.

There are about 25 shops and restaurants at the retail centre, including popular franchises such as Starbucks, TK Maxx, Next, and Matalan.

Police Scotland said it was treating the incident as wilful and has appealed to the public for information.

Detective constable Garry Mauran said: “Thankfully no-one was injured as a result of the fire which has caused significant damage and loss of business to several premises in the area.

“We are treating the fire as wilful and I would appeal to anyone who was in the area and may have witnessed anything suspicious to contact us, external.”
