Two masked raiders armed with weapons staged a terrifying robbery at a Fife shop.
Jack Bonner and Richard Grant were armed with a power drill and a knife or screwdriver when they subjected a member of staff at a Co-op food store in Shamrock Street, Dunfermline, in Fife, to an ordeal.
The victim had a knife or screwdriver put to his neck and was threatened with violence during the robbery on June 15 in 2024.
He was forced to open a safe at the premises and his hands were tied behind his back before the activated electric drill was put to his back and then switched off.
Bonner, 26, and Grant, 39, helped themselves to money, alcohol, cigarettes, vapes and other items but witnesses who saw the crime unfold contacted police and Bonner was arrested at the rear of the premises.
Grant was later arrested and told police: “I have not robbed anyone.”
The pair, who are currently both in Perth prison, admitted assaulting the shop worker and robbing him of money and goods at the store.
A judge at the High Court in Edinburgh heard that there was a full recovery of the items taken in the raid.
Defence solicitor advocate Jim Stephenson, for Bonner, said drugs were a factor even in his childhood as his father served jail sentences for dealing.
He said: “He accepts drug abuse is at the heart of his offending and is trying to address that in the prison system.”
The judge, Simon Collins KC, called for background reports to be prepared on the pair ahead of sentencing.
The court heard that both of the accused had criminal records, including for assault and robbery.
The judge said that, given the nature of the latest offence and their lengthy records, he wanted to consider post-release supervision for the pair following prison sentences.
Bonner and Grant continue to be remanded in custody ahead of an appearance at the High Court in Stirling on March 3.
