Manhole cover 'explodes' forcing road to close and public urged to stay away

A manhole cover has exploded in Dunfermline, forcing a road to be closed.

Emergency services were called to the city’s Townhill Road on Wednesday.

Albany Street, Bellyeoman Road and Leys Park Road have been closed by officers following the explosion.

Locals have been urged to avoid the area.

In CCTV footage from the scene, the manhole can be seen flying into the air, followed by a billowing cloud.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Albany Street, Bellyeoman Road and Leys Park Road in Dunfermline are closed after a manhole cover exploded on Townhill Road.

“The public is asked to avoid the area.”
